Can I get it?
Yes, if a doctor decides it is right for you. Tretinoin is authorised in the EU and can be prescribed after a medical review.

Our licensed doctors currently focus on three areas with solid clinical evidence and a clear EU regulatory framework. We extend the catalogue as specialists join and regulation allows. Tretinoin is outside the current scope.
Buying Tretinoin online without a valid prescription carries counterfeiting and toxicity risks. Always consult a licensed healthcare professional.
IN PLAIN TERMS
Tretinoin is vitamin-A acid, and it exists as two very different medicines. As a cream or gel it is applied to the skin for acne, where it clears blocked pores. As a capsule taken by mouth it is a hospital cancer treatment for acute promyelocytic leukaemia, given under haematology supervision — the same molecule, a completely different setting and dose. Both are real, authorised medicines; neither is something Hi-Doctor prescribes, because we treat hair loss, weight management and sexual health.
Tretinoin is an authorised medicine in the EU, so a licensed doctor can prescribe it when it is clinically appropriate for you.

WHAT IT IS
Vitamin-A acid. On the skin it speeds up the turnover of the cells lining the pores so blockages clear; taken by mouth in one type of leukaemia it makes immature blood cells finish maturing.
DEVELOPMENT STAGE
Every NCT identifier links to its ClinicalTrials.gov record. A readout is not the same as peer-reviewed publication.
| TRIAL / NCT | POPULATION | PARTICIPANTS | STATUS | READOUT / COMPLETION |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| APL0406 (GIMEMA / AMLSG / SAL)NCT00482833 | Adults with newly diagnosed low-to-intermediate-risk acute promyelocytic leukaemia (77 assigned to ATRA plus arsenic trioxide, 79 to ATRA plus chemotherapy) | 156 | Read out | 2013-07-11 |
Results are grouped by source and evidence grade so journal data and manufacturer announcements cannot be confused.
| DOSE OR GROUP | MEAN WEIGHT CHANGE | WEEKS |
|---|---|---|
| oral all-trans retinoic acid plus arsenic trioxide | 2-year event-free survival 97%, versus 86% with all-trans retinoic acid plus chemotherapy (11-point difference, 95% CI 2–22) | — |
This trial covers the oral, hospital-supervised oncology use of tretinoin only. It tells you nothing about the topical tretinoin cream or gel used for acne, which is a different product used at a completely different dose.

NAMED SAFETY SIGNALS
Topical tretinoin (cream or gel) is authorised for acne vulgaris. Oral tretinoin is a hospital cancer medicine for acute promyelocytic leukaemia. They are not interchangeable.
Oral tretinoin in leukaemia can cause a potentially life-threatening reaction with fever, breathlessness and fluid retention, which is why it is given under specialist haematology monitoring.
Tretinoin was covered by the EMA's 2018 retinoid review; oral retinoids can harm the unborn child and must not be used in pregnancy. Topical retinoids are also not recommended in pregnancy.
Redness, peeling, dryness, burning and increased sensitivity to sunlight are the common effects of the cream or gel.
