Regulatory framework

Hi-Doctor operates under the Spanish and European rules applicable to the provision of remote healthcare services. Every physician who prescribes at Hi-Doctor is a member of an Official College of Physicians in Spain.

Electronic prescription

Prescriptions issued by our doctors follow the Spanish national standard the electronic prescription (Receta Médica Privada Electrónica (Electronic Private Medical Prescription)), in accordance with Royal Decree 1718/2010 on medical prescriptions and dispensing orders, and under the certification of the Organización Médica Colegial.

REMPE and EU cross-border prescriptions

What is a REMPE prescription?

REMPE stands for Receta Médica Privada Electrónica, the Spanish standard for a private electronic prescription. A Hi-Doctor REMPE is a Spanish-issued PDF carrying every field required by EU Directive 2011/24/EU: the patient, the prescriber and their country of practice, and the medicine by its active ingredient (INN) and dose.

Is a Spanish prescription valid in other EU countries?

Yes. Under EU Directive 2011/24/EU, a prescription issued by a doctor licensed in one member state and carrying the harmonised cross-border fields is recognised in the others. In Spain the pharmacy scans the QR code for the exact product; elsewhere in the EU the pharmacist dispenses a local equivalent of the same active ingredient.

Can I fill a Hi-Doctor prescription in Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Malta or Cyprus?

Yes. The REMPE is recognised across all 27 EU member states. Outside Spain the pharmacist reads the PDF and dispenses an equivalent containing the same active ingredient at the same dose, because the medicine is identified by its International Nonproprietary Name.

Do I always receive a prescription?

No. A doctor reviews each consultation and may decide a treatment is not appropriate. If the doctor declines, the €25 consultation fee is refunded — a prescription is the possible outcome of a consultation, never guaranteed.

Data protection

We comply with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and Spanish Organic Law 3/2018 on Personal Data Protection. Health data is processed under article 9.2.h GDPR — processing by professionals bound by professional secrecy.

AEMPS

We comply with the advertising guidelines of the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices (Agencia Española de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitarios): we never advertise prescription-only medicines to consumers.

You can direct medical complaints to the College of Physicians to which the professional belongs, or contact us at hello@hi-doctor.ai.
