Causes

What can cause hair loss

Knowing the cause decides the treatment.

Genetics

Androgenetic alopecia: gradual thinning at the temples or crown, or a widening part.

Stress, illness or childbirth

Telogen effluvium: sudden shedding months after a trigger, often temporary.

Low iron or vitamin D

Deficiencies can slow growth; a blood test can check.

Alopecia areata

Round patches of hair loss caused by the immune system.

Tight hairstyles

Traction alopecia from ponytails, braids or extensions.

Some medicines

Certain treatments list hair loss as a side effect.

When to see a doctor

When to see a doctor

Most hair loss is harmless. It is worth seeing a doctor if you notice:

  • Hair falling out in patches or clumps
  • Sudden shedding after illness, surgery or childbirth
  • Itching, redness or scaling on the scalp
  • Thinning that's getting faster

Questions about hair loss

Can caída del cabello be treated through an online consultation?
An EU-licensed doctor reviews your case from the clinical questionnaire you complete in about 5-8 minutes. If there is a clinical indication, you receive an electronic prescription in less than 2 hours on average; if there is not, the doctor tells you why and the fee is refunded in full.
The plan is €15/month (billed €45 every 90 days). If the doctor does not approve a treatment, the fee is refunded in full. Medication is paid for separately at the pharmacy.
It depends on the pharmacy. It is an electronic prescription under Directive 2011/24/EU. In Spain the pharmacy scans the QR code; elsewhere, each pharmacy decides whether it can dispense it, and some do not accept PDF prescriptions. A pharmacist who accepts it may dispense the locally-marketed equivalent of the same active ingredient.

An EU-licensed doctor, never an automated algorithm. Their licence number appears on the electronic prescription so any pharmacy can verify it.
In less than 2 hours on average. The reply lands in your private account, along with the prescription if one is issued, plus an email notification. The conversation stays in the in-account chat. We never use WhatsApp or SMS for clinical matters.
