How to use

  1. 01

    Step 1

    Take on an empty stomach

Take Rybelsus first thing in the morning, at least 8 hours after your last meal. Swallow the tablet whole with a sip of water (no more than 120 ml). Do not split, crush, or chew the tablet.

  2. 02

    Step 2

    Wait 30 minutes before eating

After taking the tablet, wait at least 30 minutes before eating or drinking anything (including other medications). This is important for the medication to be absorbed properly.

  3. 03

    Step 3

Take it at the same time each day

Consistency helps maintain steady levels. If you miss a dose, skip it and take the next one at the usual time. Do not take two doses at once.

Treatment pathway

Your Rybelsus pathway

  1. Month 1

    • Start at 1.5 mg once daily

On an empty stomach with up to half a glass of water — wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or other tablets.

  2. From month 2

    • Step up monthly

4 mg after one month; 9 mg after at least a month on 4 mg if a stronger effect is needed.

      • The 30-minute empty-stomach rule never changes — it drives absorption
  3. After 3 months on your maintenance dose — is your weight responding and are side effects acceptable?

    Yes

    Continue treatment

Keep the dose with regular reviews.

Side effects

01

Nausea

Very common in the first weeks. Eat smaller meals, avoid fatty or fried foods, and eat slowly. Nausea usually improves within 1-2 weeks.

02

Constipation or diarrhoea

Drink plenty of water (6-8 glasses a day). Include fibre-rich foods like vegetables and whole grains. Gentle movement like walking can help.

03

Fatigue

Some patients feel tired in the first weeks. This usually passes. Rest when needed and keep your meals light.

04
