Telogen effluvium is a form of diffuse hair shedding that occurs when a physiological or psychological stress event causes a large number of follicles to enter the resting phase (telogen) prematurely. Unlike other forms of alopecia, there is no follicle destruction, so recovery is usually spontaneous.
