IN PLAIN TERMS
Dapoxetine, sold in Europe as Priligy, is a tablet for premature ejaculation in men aged 18 to 64. It is a serotonin medicine designed to work and leave the body fast, so it is taken one to three hours before sex rather than every day. In the main trials the average time to ejaculation was about 0.9 minutes before treatment and rose to 2.8 minutes on 30 mg and 3.3 minutes on 60 mg, compared with 1.8 minutes on a dummy tablet. It is authorised in EU countries including Spain, but Hi-Doctor does not prescribe it: it needs a doctor who can first check your heart history, your mood history and your other medicines, because fainting is a recognised risk.
Dapoxetine has been authorised for use in the EU since 6 February 2009, so a licensed doctor can prescribe it when it is clinically appropriate for you.

VERIFIED EVIDENCE
WHAT IT IS
Dapoxetine is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor that acts and clears the body quickly, so a single tablet taken shortly before sex briefly raises serotonin signalling and delays the ejaculation reflex.
DEVELOPMENT STAGE
Every NCT identifier links to its ClinicalTrials.gov record. A readout is not the same as peer-reviewed publication.
| TRIAL / NCT | POPULATION | PARTICIPANTS | STATUS | READOUT / COMPLETION |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dapoxetine phase 3 trial (first of two trials pooled in the Lancet integrated analysis)NCT00211107 | Men with moderate-to-severe premature ejaculation in stable heterosexual relationships, treated at US sites | 1,294 | Read out | 2006-09-09 |
| Dapoxetine phase 3 trial (second of two trials pooled in the Lancet integrated analysis)NCT00211094 | Men with moderate-to-severe premature ejaculation in stable heterosexual relationships, treated at US sites | 1,320 | Read out | 2006-09-09 |
Results are grouped by source and evidence grade so journal data and manufacturer announcements cannot be confused.
| DOSE OR GROUP | MEAN WEIGHT CHANGE | WEEKS |
|---|---|---|
| Placebo (n=870) | Stopwatch-measured time to ejaculation 0.90 min at baseline, 1.75 min at endpoint | 12 |
| 30 mg on demand (n=874) | Stopwatch-measured time to ejaculation 0.92 min at baseline, 2.78 min at endpoint (p<0.0001 vs placebo) | 12 |
| 60 mg on demand (n=870) | Stopwatch-measured time to ejaculation 0.91 min at baseline, 3.32 min at endpoint (p<0.0001 vs placebo) | 12 |
Both trials ran only at US sites in men in stable heterosexual relationships, and a stopwatch measurement of latency does not capture how satisfied either partner felt.

Reported by 5.9% of men on 30 mg and 6.8% of men on 60 mg in the phase 3 trials.
EU regulators reviewed severe fainting episodes with the 60 mg tablet; the European Commission decision of 20 January 2012 requires treatment to start at 30 mg and allows a move to 60 mg only if 30 mg was not enough and no moderate or severe reactions occurred.
Not to be used in men with significant heart disease, a history of fainting, or a history of mania or severe depression, or alongside MAOI antidepressants or thioridazine.
About
Active ingredient: Dapoxetine · Dosages: 30–60 mg
Dapoxetine is a short-acting selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor used on demand for premature ejaculation in eligible adult men. It is intended for a persistent pattern that causes distress, not an occasional early ejaculation.
The indication, regimen and follow-up depend on your history and country guidance. A licensed doctor decides whether it is appropriate; prescribing is never automatic.
How it helps
The tablet is used before anticipated sexual activity rather than as a daily medicine.
The review distinguishes a persistent condition from a temporary change or another sexual-health concern.
The doctor checks benefit, dizziness and other effects before any dose change.
What to expect
A common starting dose is 30 mg taken 1–3 hours before sexual activity. A doctor may consider 60 mg only after reviewing response and tolerance.
Typical regimen
Safety first
Dapoxetine is an effective medicine — and like any medicine it carries risks. Your doctor screens for all of this before prescribing. Here's the honest picture, not just reassurance.
Prescribed for men aged 18 to 64 with premature ejaculation. Taken 1 to 3 hours before sexual activity.
