Why buying it online is risky

We don't prescribe it today, but our doctors can review your case and propose an equivalent hair growth treatment with EU approval and clinical evidence.
IN PLAIN TERMS
PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. It is a procedure, not a medicine: a nurse or doctor draws some of your blood, spins it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, and injects that concentrate into your scalp in a clinic. Because it is a procedure using your own blood rather than a manufactured medicine, no medicines regulator has authorised it, no doctor can write you a prescription for it, and it cannot be arranged online - you would need to attend a clinic in person. The published evidence is mixed: several trials report an increase in hair density, but reviewers judge the studies to be small, inconsistent and at risk of bias, and there is no agreed standard for how PRP should be prepared or injected. Hi-Doctor does not offer PRP.
PRP therapy has no EU marketing authorisation for this use. It may be an approved medicine for something else, or approved in another country — but not something a doctor here can prescribe for this.

Not through Hi-Doctor. Hi-Doctor does not prescribe PRP therapy. People in Porto, Portugal, can request an online consultation for Hair growth with a licensed EU doctor, who may recommend an available option when clinically appropriate. If approved, the EU prescription arrives as a PDF for a pharmacist in Portugal, who dispenses the locally marketed equivalent with the prescribed active ingredient.

VERIFIED EVIDENCE
WHAT IT IS
A small amount of your own blood is taken and spun in a machine to concentrate the platelets, and that concentrate is then injected into the scalp in the hope that the growth factors platelets release will act on the hair follicles.
DEVELOPMENT STAGE
Results are grouped by source and evidence grade so journal data and manufacturer announcements cannot be confused.
| DOSE OR GROUP | MEAN WEIGHT CHANGE | WEEKS |
|---|---|---|
| PRP scalp injections (protocols varied between studies) | 6 of 9 studies reported a statistically significant increase in hair density versus control | — |
| PRP scalp injections (protocols varied between studies) | 5 of 9 studies reported a statistically significant increase in hair count versus control | — |
The review covered nine studies with 291 participants in total; seven of the nine were judged at moderate risk of bias and the authors describe the overall evidence as low quality with high variation between studies, and there is no standard PRP preparation or injection protocol.
NAMED SAFETY SIGNALS
In a separate meta-analysis of nine randomised trials (238 patients), two of the studies reported adverse reactions and none reported a serious adverse reaction (Zhang et al., J Cutan Med Surg 2023).
PRP is a procedure using your own blood, not a licensed medicine, so it has no EMA or national marketing authorisation and no approved product information; what is injected depends on the individual clinic's equipment and protocol.
