What Hair transplant is, and how to get treatment

A hair transplant is surgery, not a medicine. It is done in a clinic, usually under local anaesthetic and over several hours, and a surgeon moves individual hair follicles from the back or sides of your head into the thinning areas. Because it is an operation, no doctor can prescribe it and it cannot be arranged through an online consultation - you would need an in-person assessment with a surgeon. It also does not stop the underlying pattern hair loss, so hair in the untreated areas can keep thinning and doctors often advise continuing medical treatment alongside it. Hi-Doctor does not perform or arrange hair transplants.

Hair transplant has no EU marketing authorisation for this use. It may be an approved medicine for something else, or approved in another country — but not something a doctor here can prescribe for this.

Can I get it?

Not for this use. Hair transplant has no EU authorisation for it, so it cannot be prescribed or dispensed here for that purpose.

Can I get Hair transplant in Vantaa?

Not through Hi-Doctor. Hi-Doctor does not prescribe Hair transplant. People in Vantaa, Finland, can request an online consultation for Hair growth with a licensed EU doctor, who may recommend an available option when clinically appropriate. If approved, the EU prescription arrives as a PDF for a pharmacist in Finland, who dispenses the locally marketed equivalent with the prescribed active ingredient.

WHAT IT IS

How it works

A surgeon takes hair follicles from the back or sides of the head, where hair tends to be less affected by pattern hair loss, and places them one by one into the thinning areas, where they keep the characteristics of the area they came from.

NAMED SAFETY SIGNALS

What has been reported with Hair transplant.

Overall complication rate

A 2025 scoping review of 43 publications on modern hair transplantation reported overall complication rates of 1.2% and 4.7% in two large case series (Liu et al., Aesthetic Plast Surg 2025).

Swelling and crusting after surgery

In the same review, frontal swelling was reported in up to 50% of patients, crusting in up to 54.8% and sterile folliculitis in up to 53.3%.

Scarring at the donor site

Hypertrophic scarring or keloid formation after strip harvesting (FUT) was reported in up to 15.1% of patients in the same review.

Numbness

Persistent numbness was reported in up to 11% of patients in the same review; a 2026 review of follicular unit excision puts long-term sensory disturbance at around 2%.

Infection

Infection was reported in up to 11% of patients across the publications in the 2025 review, including rare severe infections; the 2026 follicular unit excision review reports an incidence under 1%.

Bleeding

Bleeding requiring intervention was reported in up to 8% of patients in the 2025 review.

Hair loss carries on afterwards

Surgery moves existing follicles but does not stop the underlying process; a 2026 review notes that alopecia may continue to evolve and that further procedures or ongoing medical treatment may be needed.

UNAPPROVED PRODUCTS ONLINE

Why buying Hair transplant online is not a shortcut.

No doctor in the EU can prescribe it for this use — including ours. It may be authorised in another country, or for a different condition.

Check the EU common logo

A legitimate online pharmacy in the EU must display the common logo linked to its national register. The logo is a verification check; it cannot make an unapproved medicine legal.
