IN PLAIN TERMS

What CJC-1295 is, and how to get treatment

CJC-1295 is a laboratory-made copy of growth-hormone-releasing hormone, altered so that it stays active in the blood for much longer than the natural hormone, which makes the pituitary gland release more of the body's own growth hormone. It has never been approved as a medicine in the European Union or anywhere else, and no doctor can prescribe it; the one registered company trial, in people with HIV-related abdominal fat, was stopped without results. Regulators have recorded serious adverse events with it, including raised heart rate and a whole-body flushing reaction. What is sold online is a research chemical made outside medicines manufacturing rules, so its strength, purity and contents cannot be verified.

CJC-1295 has no EU marketing authorisation for this use. It may be an approved medicine for something else, or approved in another country — but not something a doctor here can prescribe for this.

Can I get it?

Not for this use. CJC-1295 has no EU authorisation for it, so it cannot be prescribed or dispensed here for that purpose.

WHAT IT IS

How it works

A laboratory-made copy of growth-hormone-releasing hormone, chemically modified so it stays in the blood far longer than the natural hormone; it acts on the pituitary gland's GHRH receptor to increase release of the body's own growth hormone.

NAMED SAFETY SIGNALS

What has been reported with CJC-1295.

Serious adverse events identified by the FDA

The US Food and Drug Administration states it "has identified serious adverse events associated with CJC-1295 including increased heart rate and systemic vasodilatory reaction", and that "available clinical data are limited".

Impurity and immunogenicity risk

The FDA notes preparations "may pose risk for immunogenicity for certain routes of administration and may have complexities with regard to peptide-related impurities and API characterization".

Its only registered company trial was stopped

A phase 2 trial in people with HIV-associated visceral obesity (NCT00267527, ConjuChem) was terminated and no results were posted. No completed trial has reported that CJC-1295 is safe or effective for any use.

Unregulated supply

Sold online as a research chemical outside medicines manufacturing rules, so strength, purity and contents are unverifiable.

UNAPPROVED PRODUCTS ONLINE

Why buying CJC-1295 online is not a shortcut.

No doctor in the EU can prescribe it for this use — including ours. It may be authorised in another country, or for a different condition.
