Doxycycline for chlamydia guide
How to complete 100 mg twice daily for 7 days when prescribed for uncomplicated chlamydia, protect the oesophagus and skin, and coordinate partner care.

Take 100 mg twice daily for 7 days
For uncomplicated chlamydia, take one 100 mg dose about every 12 hours for the full 7-day course, exactly as prescribed. A different diagnosis, pregnancy, or complication can require another regimen.

Use plenty of water and stay upright
Swallow with a full glass of water while sitting or standing and do not lie down for at least 30 minutes. Separate antacids and supplements containing iron, calcium, magnesium, aluminium, or zinc according to pharmacist advice.

Take every dose and finish the course even if symptoms settle. If a dose is missed, take it when remembered unless the next is near; do not double.

Sex and follow-up
Avoid sexual contact that could transmit infection until the full course is finished and the interval advised for you and relevant partners has passed. Complete partner notification, testing, and any retesting plan.
Effets secondaires
Stomach and oesophagus
Nausea, abdominal discomfort, diarrhoea, and painful swallowing can occur. Water and staying upright reduce oesophageal irritation; seek advice for severe chest pain or difficulty swallowing.
Sun sensitivity and thrush
Skin may burn more easily in sun. Limit strong sun and use protective clothing and sunscreen. Thrush can occur during or after antibiotics.

- Severe pelvic or testicular pain, fever, vomiting, pregnancy, eye symptoms after exposure, or feeling acutely unwell
- A severe allergic or skin reaction, severe headache with visual change, painful swallowing, or severe or bloody diarrhoea
- A dose was missed repeatedly, sex occurred before the advised interval, a partner was not treated, or symptoms persist
Conservation
Keep in the original package, away from moisture and direct heat, and out of children's reach. Follow the temperature limit on your pack and do not use it after the expiry date.
À quoi s'attendre
Doxycycline treats susceptible chlamydia when the full course is taken, but symptom improvement is not proof that infection and reinfection risks have been addressed. Partner care, the advised no-sex interval, and appropriately timed follow-up remain part of treatment; no antibiotic can promise a cure in every case.
