CE QUE C'EST
Anxiety is a natural response to stress or danger, but when it is persistent, disproportionate or occurs without a clear trigger, it may be considered an anxiety disorder.
Anxiety disorders include generalised anxiety disorder, panic attacks, social anxiety and specific phobias. Common symptoms include excessive worry, muscle tension, difficulty concentrating, irritability and sleep disturbances.
A medical approach starts with an evaluation that rules out organic causes and assesses the intensity and functional impact, to recommend the most suitable treatment for each person.
À QUELLE FRÉQUENCE
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health conditions in Europe, with an estimated prevalence of 14 % of the population, and are more common in women than in men.
European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP)

APPROCHES THÉRAPEUTIQUES
- Psychological therapy, especially cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT)
- Relaxation techniques, mindfulness and diaphragmatic breathing
- Regular physical exercise as a supportive measure
- Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) when prescribed by a doctor
- Benzodiazepines only for occasional, short-term use under strict medical supervision
