Sobre o tratamento

O que é Semaglutide?

Substância ativa: Semaglutide · Dosagens: 0.25 – 2.4 mg / week

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist — a medication that mimics a natural hormone your gut releases after eating. It reduces appetite, slows gastric emptying and helps maintain sustained weight loss when combined with supervised nutrition and activity changes.

It's prescribed alongside changes to diet and activity, as part of a medically supervised plan — not on its own, and not as a shortcut. A licensed EU doctor decides whether it's appropriate and safe for you.

Como ajuda

Three ways it supports weight loss.

Eases appetite

Acts on hunger signals, so many people feel satisfied with less food.

Slows digestion

Food stays in your stomach longer, so you tend to feel full for longer.

Part of a plan

Prescribed alongside support for diet and activity — never as a standalone fix.

O que esperar

A gradual, supervised start.

The dose is increased slowly over 16 weeks to help your body adjust and to ease side effects. Your doctor sets your exact schedule.

  1. Weeks 1–4 · Lowest dose
  2. Weeks 5–16 · Step up gradually
  3. Month 4+ · Maintenance dose
  4. Ongoing · Regular check-ins

Typical escalation

  • Weeks 1–40.25 mg / week
  • Weeks 5–80.5 mg / week
  • Weeks 9–121 mg / week
  • Weeks 13–161.7 mg / week
  • Maintenanceup to 2.4 mg / week

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 analogue approved by the EMA for weight management and type-2 diabetes when a licensed doctor considers it appropriate.

WHAT IT IS

A GLP-1 analogue that targets satiety and gastric emptying.

Semaglutide is a synthetic peptide that mimics GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1), a hormone the gut releases after a meal. It is the same molecule sold under Ozempic (type-2 diabetes) and Wegovy (weight management) — the active ingredient is identical; the dosing and approved indication differ.

Its effect on weight comes from three combined actions: it increases the feeling of fullness after eating, slows gastric emptying, and modulates the insulin/glucagon response to glucose.

HOW IT WORKS

Mechanism of action and why food intake decreases spontaneously.

Semaglutide binds to GLP-1 receptors in the pancreas, the digestive tract and brain areas that regulate appetite (hypothalamus and brainstem). That binding produces three clinically measurable effects:

  • Satiety: patients describe getting full earlier and staying full longer, which reduces intake without the need for calorie counting.
  • Slowed gastric emptying: food stays in the stomach longer, which also explains the mild nausea reported in the first month.
  • Glycaemic regulation: it increases insulin secretion under hyperglycaemia and suppresses glucagon, improving blood-sugar control.

The effect on weight unfolds gradually over months; phase-III clinical trials report an average sustained loss of 10–15 % of starting weight when combined with diet and physical-activity changes.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE

Eligibility criteria your doctor will assess.

The EMA indication in weight management is for adults with BMI ≥ 30 kg/m² (obesity), or ≥ 27 kg/m² (overweight) with at least one weight-related comorbidity (hypertension, type-2 diabetes, dyslipidaemia, sleep apnoea).

The licensed doctor reviews your questionnaire to verify the indication, rule out contraindications (personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma, MEN-2, prior pancreatitis, pregnancy, breastfeeding) and check for interactions with your current medication before prescribing.

If your case is not eligible, the doctor tells you through the private chat in your account and the €25 is refunded in full.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Timelines, dosing and follow-up during treatment.

Treatment starts at a low dose and escalates gradually over 16 weeks to minimise gastrointestinal effects. That titration is standard for every GLP-1 analogue, and the doctor decides the schedule based on your response and tolerance.

Visible changes in weight usually appear between weeks 8 and 12, with the largest cumulative loss between months 6 and 12. The medication continues as long as the doctor judges the benefit/risk balance favourable and under ongoing clinical follow-up.

Follow-up happens exclusively through the private chat in your Hi-Doctor account — no WhatsApp, no SMS, no third-party apps. You can reach the doctor whenever you have questions or side effects.

SAFETY

Side effects, contraindications and monitoring.

The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation. They tend to appear in the first weeks and improve with dose adjustment. Most are mild and temporary, but the doctor adjusts the schedule if they interfere with your routine.

It is contraindicated in people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma, MEN-2, active pancreatitis, severe renal impairment, during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The doctor reviews the full questionnaire before prescribing.

After issuing the electronic prescription, the doctor recommends periodic follow-up to review tolerance, weight, blood pressure and, if appropriate, blood glucose. Every follow-up is logged in your account chat.
