Hi-Doctor's dermatology consultations cover topical treatments only. We do not treat severe nodular, cystic, or scarring acne online, nor do we prescribe oral isotretinoin (Roaccutane) or oral antibiotics. Patients presenting with severe or scarring acne will be directed to in-person medical care.

What Duac actually does

Duac is a prescription topical gel containing two synergistic active ingredients: clindamycin 1% (a lincosamide antibiotic) and benzoyl peroxide (available in 3% or 5% concentrations). Clindamycin suppresses Cutibacterium acnes bacteria within the pores, while benzoyl peroxide provides potent keratolytic and antimicrobial action.

Because benzoyl peroxide introduces oxygen into the follicle, it prevents bacteria from developing resistance to clindamycin. For this reason, clindamycin is never prescribed on its own for acne. Treatment courses are strictly capped at 12 weeks to protect your skin microbiome and assess treatment response.

Treatment Option Active Ingredients Application Key Clinical Focus
Duac Gel Clindamycin 1% + Benzoyl Peroxide (3% or 5%) Once nightly (max 12 weeks) Fast reduction of inflammatory papules and pustules
Epiduo Gel Adapalene 0.1% + Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% Once nightly Targets comedones and inflammation without antibiotics
Skinoren / Finacea Azelaic Acid 15% Twice daily Comedolytic and post-inflammatory pigmentation control

Side effects and when to stop

Mild redness, peeling, dryness, and a slight stinging sensation are common during the first 1 to 2 weeks of using Duac. You should apply a non-comedogenic moisturiser and broad-spectrum sunscreen daily, as benzoyl peroxide increases sensitivity to UV light.

Benzoyl peroxide will bleach hair, clothing, and bed linens, so wash hands thoroughly after application. Discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor if you develop severe burning, swelling, or symptoms of an allergic reaction.

Why Hi-Doctor vs. walking into a clinic

Booking a private dermatology consultation in Alicante often costs between 80 € and 150 €, alongside lengthy appointment wait times. Hi-Doctor offers a streamlined, transparent 40 € one-off consultation without clinic visits.
